Question by Paula: Does anyone have any quick, easy weight loss tips/advice/anything???!?!?!!?
So I just visited the doctors office. I got some bad news and in order to switch it into good news I need to lose weight. So I’m thinking 30 to (maybe)40 pounds. I’ll be going back to the doctors in 4 months(April 2010). So I’d like to lose it by then. I know it’s not an east task but I’m willing to work with it.
I’d really appreciate it if anyone had any advice other than the obvious.
Is there any certain excersise I should do? Certain foods I should eat?

Please & Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by hanseok77
push ups pull ups dips jumping jacks and weight lifting, because muscle burns fat really well even after you workout or are sleeping btw dont worry about getting bulky its very difficult and takes a long time even for guys. anyway those exersises work very well and swimming laps, drink lots of water dont drink pop or at least not too much as for foods dont eat chips, cookies, fast food, mabye every now an then but if you want to lose fat asap then no junk food at all and again drink lots of water and try running hard and sprinting instead of long distance jogging

Question by Kelly M: Metformin to help lose weight?
Has anyone been prescribed Metformin to aid in weight loss? Has it helped? Of course along with diet and exercise. I suddenly gained 40lbs out of nowhere and after testing blood found I had PCOS and Hyperactive thyroid, high cholesterol, and high glucose. I have always been fit and healthy. This news comes as a surprise, but I do want to do all I can to get back to my old self. I have tried w/out meds and was able to lower my cholesterol to a good healthy level but with the diet still gained weight. Just looking for lil hope it could help even a bit.

Best answer:

Answer by Gloria A
The doctor prescribed me Metformin, but I only take it when my blood sugar go to high, because the pill make feel real bad. I don’t know if they make you lose weight. I lost about 27 pounds and my sugar went down. I have the same problem with cholesterol, I take medication and is still high. Sometimes there is nothing we can do since the liver produce it by itself. Use grape oil to cook, that take about 480 degree when you fry something. It’s expensive and you can get it in the health food store. Olive oil is good for salad, but once you cook food with, is like any other oil. You can take one spoon of olive oil before go to sleep, also in the morning take a lemon juice, that help the liver to digest, eat wheat integral bread instead of regular bread, avoid candy, coke, fast food. Try to eat salmon, fish, salad. You don’t have to starve to death, but you can eat a small portion. You will loose weight, I lost 27 pounds and I look like a grasshopper, if I keep loosing weight I will desappear. I hope I helped you.

Question by JannyReb: When you are on a plateau in weight loss, what is the quickest way to get the scales to move downward again?
I have lost over 150 pounds. You’d think I know the answer, but my weight loss has taken about 9 1/2 years time so far. I would like it over and done with. I’d like to know more things I could be doing to get the numbers to move on downward some more. I guess I am impatient, understandably. For many years I had diabetes and did not know that I had it.
I just found out 2 years ago that I have Type II and this is why it has been so very slow and difficult for me to lose. The only good news in all this is that it is not impossible for even someone like me to lose weight and change their life.

Best answer:

Answer by Cnick
First congratulations on your weight loss. But sadly the battle is never over. It’s a constant effort to keep the pounds off. But I can say that I personally just lost 15lbs, simply by not drinking any more soda. So if your still drinking high carb drinks……stop!. You’d be suprised how much you can lose just by doing that.

-thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Tasha J
it will help you lose weight if you are the type of person who drank alot of soda, coffee, and juice. If you cut all those out and just drink water….I believe that you can lose up to 10 pounds in a month without doing anything else! Plus it helps you to clean you out….

Question by JaneDoe: Late Period! Please Help!?
Usually I never noticed my period or even plotted down the date, since I have never had sex or done anything sexual (dont even have a boyfriend). However, since last month I’ve had an exam at the same time of my period I remembered when I got it last and have realized that I am now 15 days late for my period. I don’t know if I have been going through too much stress or weight loss, but I can say that the past 6 months have been stressful – moving to a new country, starting a new study and traveling around on average at least once or twice every month. I have been steadily losing weight, but not much. I’ve been through worse before. I am 26 and the last time my period stopped (for 7 months) was when I was 16 due to drastic weight loss. I’ve put the weight back on but ever since I moved to this new country I’ve trying to eat less and healthier. During the past 6 months I lost around 14 pounds, which I don’t think is much to stop my period. Also I have been severely depressed this past month to the extend that I sometimes could cry involuntarily, but for the past 10 days or so I haven’t been as depressed…in fact, just two days ago I received some great news from back home and still it did not come…

What can be the problem? I am starting to think all kinds of thoughts. Since I arrived in this country I have been living in houses of couples (who are sexually active), can me sharing the bathroom with them cause me to get pregnant without me noticing anything suspicious? Forgive my ignorance in these matters, but I am indeed worried…

Oh and one last thing, for the past two weeks I started to every now and then get a dull pain in my abdomen that extends to my leg and lower back, but it is not severe in anyway and goes away most of the day. In fact I thought it was related to a trip I recently did (around 17 days ago) in which I climbed up hills and mountains carrying a very heavy backpack.

Thanks anyways…

Best answer:

Answer by LisaC
Since you are not sexually active, you are not pregnant. You cannot become pregnant by sharing a bathroom. If you are truly 26 years old I am surprised to read you don’t know that fact. Anyhow, please do see a doctor. Women can skip periods due to physical stress, and also due to emotional stress. Moving from one home/country/anything can certainly be stressful! However, 7 months is too long to go without a period. The doctor needs to examine you and run some blood tests to determine your hormone levels. If you have an eating disorder please discuss this with the doctor. Don’t be surprised if the doctor also orders an ultrasound to check what is going on with your ovaries and your uterus. Hopefully the doctor can determine the source of your abdominal pain and make a treatment plan. Please do not ignore this health situation. Truly, only a doctor can give you the answers you need. I wish you well.

Question by *STAR*: I think my mom may have an eating disorder, how do I talk to her about it?
My mom is a very nice woman, she just finally got over breast cancer, and the loss of her mother to cancer, and the news to her sister now terminally ill from cancer. Her and my Dad have been togeather for almost 30 years and things have been a little rocky between them. Some of the medicines she had to take while battleing her cancer made her gain weight. Well now she is on this trip to lose it all and lost 45lbs in just 2 months, she monitors whatever she puts into her mouth, and only takes in 600 calories per day! If I try to talk to her about it it turns in to an hour long conversation about everything she has eaten in the past two weeks. And I used to have an eating disorder, so i know the signs. I don’t know how to talk to her about it. Any ideas?

What is “overweight”? Excess body fat. What is body fat? Stored energy.
Example answer:
The good news about being “overweight” is that you have lots of stored energy to do all the things you want to do. It’s your energy-bough and paid for.
Don’t worry about losing weight (ugh!), think about using weight (oh, boy!).
Do you think that, this kind of positive feed would be good in Holistic Medicine for treating the whole person?

Best answer:

Answer by Tony I
Sorry, but study after study have shown that people who are overweight have more health problems and live shorter lives.

The only good news about overweight is that if you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly so that you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight and have a much better chance for a healthier and longer life.

Best answer:

Answer by Eryn
im currently 25 weeks and have gained 6 which is fine. I weighed 98 lbs when pregant but im 4 ’10 so its a healthy weight. If you are in a normal weight range for your height then about 21 lbs is what you need to gain and it does not usually happen until the third trimester. If you were overweight then less weight should be gained and under weight more weight should be gained
